PORTFOLIO

The Zanzara team have worked on a wide variety of products. Our core experience has been with web, desktop, and mobile applications and a wide range of embedded devices. This has grown to include kiosks, furniture, surgical instruments, medical devices, assistive technology, and a range of services.

We don’t provide a complete list of our clients (some are confidential), but they have included the following companies:

Adobe, AMI, AOL, Apple, AT&T, BetterbyDesign, Boeing, Calypso Medical, Charles Schwab, Coinstar, Conservation Northwest, Enztec, FileNet, Fisher & Paykel, Flashpoint, Formthotecs, Formway, Foveon, Group Health, Hewlett Packard, HumanWare, IBM, Invisio, Jabra, Kodak, Mark Logic, Microsoft, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Motorola, Navman, Netscape, Openwave, Palm, Phantom, Pocketmail, Sharebuilder, Siebel, Sigma, Sony, SPIE, Sprint, Sun, Symantec, Teague, Visto, Visual Networks, Xerox, and Yahoo.

We highlight some of our work in the following case studies:

Coinstar - Innovative coin changing kiosks.
Design research helped Coinstar validate and fine tune new product concepts. Design consulting enabled the internal team to plan for how to include future features, learn about designing for touch-screen interfaces, and develop a prototyping platform. PDF: Coinstar case study

Microsoft WebTV - An internet appliance bringing internet to the TV.
An older project, but a great example of how novel design research can uncover opportunities for product enhancement. Fast in-home ethnographic research and a blank model study were used in a short time frame to good effect for this Microsoft product. PDF: WebTV case study

Palm - Innovative handheld mobile devices.
An example of the value to be gained from design research. Zanzara conducted a program of work over many products. The research included identifying new product opportunities, ensured new features in Palm’s PDAs were understandable, and that the out-of-box experience (OOBE) would not lead to support calls. Flashpoint - Digital camera operating system.
A large project involving design research, hardware and software prototyping, and extensive interaction architecture. This Apple spin-off created an operating system for digital cameras that was licensed to Nikon, Kodak, Minolta, and others. A good example of our work on integration of hardware and software for mobile devices. PDF: Flashpoint case study
